Armageddon Expo & Cosplay – Auckland (day 1-2)

Armaggedon time of the year has rolled around again. This time its held at the ASB Showgrounds. Much better venue than previous events I’ve been too in NZ. About 4x plus outside space that of wellington (hometown).

Day 1: arrived about midday and shuttled to motel. Not great impressions of it at all. Thin walls, windows don’t have locks, and only 1 key between the 3 of us who r staying in the room. And an “ancient” microwave that looks like its from the 80’s. plus, the elements above didn’t appear to work 🙂 – a good start mmm…

Day 2:  Wow the Auckland ASB Showgrounds is quite a large venue- although felt like a maze at times there was enough room to walk around even with 10,000 others coming and groung throughout the day 🙂  The afternoon was spent listening to various well known people answering the audiences random questions.

Webtoons, cosplay and snow!

It’s been a little while since made any meaningful posts on this blog…
Recently discovered only in the last few weeks “Webtoons“. These are Korean Online Webcomics ~  There are a couple that stand out imo. I’ll just mention a few ~

Noblesse by Lee Gwang Su & Son Jae Ho

Noble birth or condition.

2. The members of the nobility, especially the French nobility.

This is the first Korean Webcomic I started reading [read here] or [view original (Korean) ], currently at 193 chapters at the time of this post and still going strong. This would appeal especially thouse tho enjoy stories about the supernatural and/or vampires.
About: Cadis Etrama Di Raizel, (or ‘Rai’ for short). Awakens from a long sleep.. more than 800 years have gone by. Finding himself in a world completly diferent from what he remembers. Somehow, he ends up enrolling in a high school.  Frankenstein (yes that is his name >_>)  the headmaster of the school, also happens to be Rai’s loyal servant. Rai decides high school would the perfect place to learn about the new world.
Everything seems quiet, but it’s not long until parts of the past Kai was living in appear again in the present…

Trace by Nasty Cat

Trace by Nasty Cat

[Read online here] or [view original (Korean)] This is a interesting one, at first wasn’t sure about the artwork, but, it really grew on me as the story progressed. This web-comic is complete, though it  is only part 1. (so expect more in the near future 🙂  ).
About: 30 years ago, unidentified creatures appeared out of nowhere and began to cause havoc on Earth. That’s why people named them Troubles. With them though, normal people started developing their own unique abilities (now called Trace’s). Traces are the only ones who can fight against these invaders called Troubles. But the rest of society consider them as freaks, and try and to control/regulate them .
Sa Ghang Gwon, a student (shown in picture above) is one of them. He desperately tries to hide the fact he is a trace, wanting to blend normally into society.  The other part of the story is centered around Kim Yun Seong, a man who found out he was a Trace not till in his 30’s is a wanted criminal. Follow these two’s completely different stories and see how they intertwine with each other [sorry no spoilers from me 😉 ]

It’s Snowing!

For those who don’t know… i live in Wellington, New Zealand. Tonight was the first time i had ever seen snow settle on the ground. So thought id share a few images =)

And to touch on cosplay, have decided what am going to do for end of year =)
A lovely orange wig has arrived from China and went shopping yesterday for fabric. Never worn a white skirt b4, hope it gonna look alright =)

Level E (レベルE) Review

In the present day, hundreds of. extraterrestrial species walk the Earth. Some are pacifistic, others violent. Some are here for research purposes, others are career criminals. However, humans don’t know they are here.
Now, one more alien has arrived on Earth. One of the universe’s foremost geniuses with a personality that’s bound to attract all sorts of trouble.

Level E

Had reasonably high hopes for this series, it being created by the manga artist who did Yu Yu Hakusho. It is produced by the production company Studio Pierrot.  As of writing this review 5 episodes have aired in Japan.
My Initial thoughts from the begining of the series, that it was going to be a sci-fi drama, knowing the original authors previous series. But after episode 3, that thought changed – this is most definatly a comedy even more than a sci-fi.
I will try not to put to many spoilers in here 😉

The story follows a alien prince, Baka (note this also translates into idiot in Japanese),  from the planet Dogra who crash lands on earth, and loses his memory. He forces himself into High school student Tsutsui Yukitata’s  apartment, and now Tsutsui’s high school life is never going to be the same again and he becomes the target of Baka-ouji’s amusment, and not surprisingly, as the series progresses, others are dragged into it.

Good, definatly, but not always consistant. But that’s not always a bad thing. A prime example would be to compare the episodes 3 & 4.

Note: will update this post soon and eventually finish the review 😉

Beelzebub episode 01

Thought this blog could do with something a bit more interesting, so – perhaps the occasional review would do. This is pretty much my first so don’t mind the shortness/spelling etc ^_^

First to start off.. What is Beelzebub?  Well, he is usually refered to as a demon and the name of one of the seven princes of Hell. But i’m not getting into detail with this side.- see wiki article

The story follows the “strongest juvenile delinquent”, Oga Tatsumi, who is a first year in “Ishiyama High” the school for delinquents. He starts telling the story to his best friend Furuichi Takayuki (only friend)  of one day he is “fishing” by the river (actually, dunking another diliquent who tried to kill hime in his sleeep in the river) discovers a huge man floating down the river, pull’s him ashore and splits him in half..revealing a baby boy with green hair, who literally attaches himself to Oga.

Beel attached to Oga

This kid… is Beelzebub IV, son of the Demon King, Beelzebub. The story follows his life with the child and at the delinquent school.

From the same producers, Studio Pierrot, that also run Bleach, Naruto and various others, the likelyhood is hight that this will be another, but one can only hope that it does not end up as a filler-filled story.

As this is only the first episode will give my first impressions here, this post will probably be edited after posting,… it is after 1am in the morning 😉

Animation: Not overly detailed, but this is what suits this type of shounen show. Adore the exaggerated  expressions/reactions of the characters 8/10

Furuichi Takayuki

Sound/voice actors: Ive read in several places people are having a hard time getting used to the characters voices, but in my personal opinion they suited the character reasonably well. No complaints here, and Beelze… was just cute ^^ .. not what one expects of a Demon KIng, ne~?  8/10
OP: “Dadada” by GROUP Tamashii, ED “Answer” by NO3B

Story: Laughed through out most of the episode. Most of the main characters are introduced within in the first 10min, won’t spoil it for those who hasvn’t read the manga. As long as it’s not another ‘Bleach’ , which i have my doubts there, we will have to wait and see, this will be a fun series to follow this year and maybe beyond =)

Characters: Certainly I think they are the highlight of the series. From  Beel the cute, mischef, &  destructive baby ( tanstrums  = falling powerlines, rooms blowing up). Diliquent Oga, and Hilda, the eye-candy ,  Goth-Lolita-dressed Maid from Hell sent to earth find a human to raise Beel. And last, but not least Alaindelon, the demon who was split open revealing Beelzebub at begining, a massive guy, reminds me of the character Tessai Tsukabishi from Bleach, just a bit more, extravagant, might be the right word?

Hilda, the protective, cold maid

Episode 01 rating: 7.5/10
